In what ways do computers cause you stress? How could that stress be reduced?

Computers and Stress

I would have to say that my stress level when it comes to computers isn't that high. I am pretty confident with my computer skills so that doesn't stress me out too much. I think what stresses me out most about computers is that I'm afraid that one day my computer is going to die and I'm going to lose everything that I have on it. Over the summer I had an experience where my hard drive crashed and I thought I had lost everything. I could not have been more stressed but luckily I was able to retrieve all my files. My stress has been greatly reduced because now if something is important I make sure I save it to a CD in case that happens again. My stress would be reduced even more if I could get a new computer!!

Computer Stress

I experience stress when I cannot figure out how to do something on the computer. I am stressed right now because I have been trying to figure out how to respond to the "about stress" question. I hope this is the right place to write my response but I am afraid that this is the place to reply to Jamie's blog. I think my logic is very different from the way most computer web pages are designed. Also, I cannot seem to stay current with the terminology of technology so I don't always understand some of the prompts and headings. This is particularly stressful when pricey tuition and a grade are involved. The other computer stressor for me is that I am usually working without readily available help for clarification or explanation so I have to make many mistakes before I get something right.

Coping with Stress

Kelly, Firstly congratulations on posting in the right place. You raise a good point about basic navigation challenges potentially causing stress. Unlike today's kids who grow up with a digital native's instinct for navigation, we digital immigrants need to develop our own sense of navigational intuition through trial and error. That is the key I think - being fearless in overcoming unknowns and not being afraid to make mistakes. Jeff

computer stress

I worry about how do I finish this course. The computer technologies change so fast. I am afraid of my computer skills and my electric equipments. This course combines computer technologies and language learning. It is totally different from traditional learning. In my past learning expreience, my teachers didn't use too many "modern equipments". We always use reference books or paper works. So when you ask me "How do you use computer technlogies for your students?" I can't answer it. Now I have chance to think about this question. I hope I can catch up these new computer technologies and plan a good learning tyle to help my students.

Understandable concerns

I can understand why you are concerned Alice. Not only is the content of what's being taught very non-traditional, I believe my teaching style is very non-traditional. Instead of progressing from Topic A to Topic B and so on, I prefer to provide a relatively brief overview of topics and then let the students pursue them and build connections between them in ways that most interest them. This is more like the kind of learning that CALL supports as opposed to a more traditional book approach. In any event, I hope this approach won't be too stressful for students and I appreciate your willingness to give this learning style a try.

Computer stress

Hi ... I can say that computer is the most technology that I like to use it everyday. However, my problem is I can use computer but I can not fix it when it crash or get some problems. For example, if my computer can not get into the Internet, I won’t know how to solve the problem. Every time I got a problem, I have to ask someone else to help me. I wish I can solve the problem by myself. I may need to learn more about the troubleshooting for using computer. Joy

In waht ways do computers cause you stress?

Hi, Computers are good tools most of time for me, but they sometimes make me stress, too. For example, when my computer crashed suddenly, I might be thinking, oh Gee, I had not save the file yet. For another example, I felt so worried and stressed when I got viruses in my computer. How can I fix the problem? Can I delet the files which had viruses? Is my computer going to die or...? Because I am jsut like a baby in the field of computer technologies, I have to call friends to ask for help or sometimes, I have to take a risk to guess and try to figure out by myself. Of course, it is not a good idea.

computer stress

Computer becomes more and more popular. It has come into almost everyone's daily life not only to meet the working needs. At the same time when I use the computer more and more, there are more and more problems happening, such as virus. It's one of the factors to cause my stree of computer. In addition, I'm not good at operating a computer. That means sometime the computer has some operational problems, but I don't know how to deal with them, or what kinds of software I can use so that such problems could be avoided. After all computers are not human beings, so we cannot require them to do things always as we expect. What I can do is to use computers as an assistant according to the situation, but not to do everything. The above is all my stress.

the computer causes stress

In my opinion, when i want to use computer for some of my important, immediate purposes, the computer doesn't have a necessary function for me to carry out. I cannot manage to fulfil my purpose. In addition, i cannot ask someone to fix it or advise me to do something. At this time, i feel stressed with it. I think with this situation i will not care so much about my purposes and i will return my work in one or two days. Maybe on those days when i complain with my friend or my family, i will have a solution.
