Hi Zoe
I think it is an interesting topic.
I would like to know more about how CALL is used in Asia.

Hi Zoe,
I have the same obstacles as you. In order to implement CALL in teaching, the most important thing is computers and internet. If we don't have these, it's tough to do it. I suppose that to implement our interesting idea, we have to spend a lot of time convincing people with the same ideas as us.

Jamie ..... I really want to respond to your discussion at chinswing.com but I got some problem about a microphone. I will try to put my discussion at your chinswing later. For this time, I would like to tell you my idea about your topic as follow:
In my idea, you can create your own material for teaching by useing podcast, blog, etc. For example, you can create the slide show and attach podcast to it. Thus, your students can see the picture of what you are talking about. It will make them understand the lesson easily and you can also play it many times as you want.

Dear All,
I'm doing my portfolio items about English for tourist : At the restaurant. Could you please give me the comments? So, I can keep it for developing my webpage.
Thanks for your help

Alice's response
Hello Joy:
I think that your restaurant conversation is very good at your students. You use "bilingual" to explain the English meaning. It is very suitable for the beginners. Students don't feel a lot of stress in learning second language. They will enjoy learning. You will be a good teacher.

Response to Joy
Joy,
I really like how your wordpress is coming along! I think doing something on English for tourists is a great idea because these are key things for a person to know when visiting the U.S. I like the at the Restaurant piece because everyone needs to know the proper way to order food and what to say. I especially like it because you made it bilingual. I definitely think you should do an audio podcast of the conversation as well.
Good luck,
Jamie
English for Tourists: At the Restaurant
Hi Joy,
I like this dialogue idea. Maybe you could create some variations and offer dialogue for a fast food restaurant like Quiznos, a DunkinDonut shop, and maybe a pizza shop. Another idea I had was a dialogue for ordering breakfast. I like the bilingual presentation. It will be helpful to the language students/tourists.

To Joy
Joy,
I'm interested in your topic. Actually, I am thinking about the bilingual dialog in Chinese and English. And I want to have some English native speakers and Chinese native speakers voices to make podcasts for the dialogs. Your idea is a good way not only for Thais to learn English, but also for Americans to learn Thai.

I am doing my call portfolio. This is a learning call about "security".

Hello Alice,
Your idea is about security. It is very useful for computer users, especially amateurs like us. Yet we cannot prevent all viruses because every day there are a lot of new viruses in variety of forms. I suppose that only way to protect computers is not to access strange websites which are not reliable.
To Alice
Alice,
I really like the way you do for your worldbridging. You make it really CALL. The security of computers is necessary and important for whomever using computers and Internet, absolutely including the people who are working on CALL. It reminds me a lot. Thanks.Another Chinswing Discussion
Hey guys! I decided to start another chinswing discussion for my obstacle analysis. I hope that some of you will check it out and post a response. It can be found here:

your obstacles
Hi Jamie,
It's hard to solve your obstacles when school administration doesn't support this project. In my experience, you should compile your project listing advantages of using CALL in class clearly and in detail and present it to them. Maybe you cannot get a lot of support immediately but i believe some of them will agree with you. These people will find a way to assist you in implementing it.
Succeed to you.

Hi everyone,
I am working on my CALL portfolio. I am thinking developing some conversations for Chinese who want to visit America. Please give me some comments to help me generate better materials.
Thank you!
Visiting in America
great topics
Eva,
These are all excellent conversations to teach Chinese students who want to visit the United States. I particulary like the conversation at immigration when they first arrive. I noticed though that the conversation wasn't set up very well. I couldn't tell where one part ended and the other began. I definitely think you should to an audio podcast of these conversations so Chinese speakers can hear what they might sound like.
Jamie
Thanks for the comments
Hi Jamie,
Thank you for your comments.
I am still in the process of producing audio for those conversation.
It will be up there soon.
By the way, can you please give me more specific comments on " I couldn't tell where one part ended and the other began."? I am not quite sure what you mean. I will appreciate a lot if you can help me for that.
Thank you very much!
Eva

Hey guys. I will teach
Hey guys. I will teach English assisted by computer inVietnam
but there are a lot of obstacles to carry out this idea. In my university,
there’s only one computer lab for all students in which there are 20 computers.
Internet is not free and students don’t want to pay internet fee. Meanwhile,
some students have computers at home and the others don’t have computers. In
addition, internet is on and off and even slow because the university doesn’t
want to buy broadband. I don’t know how I can solve this issue.
Thank you for your ideas.

Computer Obstacles
Hi Thuy,
Your situation in Vietnam doesn't sound that different from my situation at my school here in Manchester. Probably the most important thing we can do is to find ways to convince the decision makers (the administration) of the importance and effectiveness of using computers and the Internet to learn English. We will need to have some examples ready to demonstrate how computers can be used by students to learn language. Good luck.
