Dear Cohort#3 Students,
I hope the beginning of the SNHU TEFL program has been going well with Prof. Carkin.  I know there are always many challenges when beginning something new, and I wanted to offer my assistance concerning technical challenges you might have now or throughout the program.

EFL537 is a two week online course that is scheduled to take place in November.  Past students have commented that two weeks is not nearly enough time to cover everything included in EFL537 and that they wished they had been able to use some of these CALL tools during other TEFL courses.  To that end, I would like to share resources that may be of use during your other courses  Nothing mentioned below is an assignment - you don't have to do anything if you don't want to.  I simply wanted to share these useful resources in case you are interested.

Gmail & Google Applications
Registering for a Gmail account (help here: http://21ctools.wikispaces.com/Gmail )  allows you to use Google's many useful services. Screencast and more help information at: http://www.efl537.com/VNU-Spring2009/google

Social Bookmarking
Using something like delicious.com will allow you to keep track of and organize your bookmarks regardless of which computer you are using. Screencasts and guides are at: http://www.efl537.com/VNU-Spring2009/social_bookmarking
You can see how past students have used Delicious.com by going here: http://www.efl537.com/all_profiles?filter0=382
and clicking the links in the Bookmarks column.

Skype
Skype is a program that lets you speak to anyone in the world for for free.  It is also a great way to have a live group text chat.  We have used this during past sessions and I would like to set one up now that allows you to connect with past students,  so that you can all ask questions and share advice with each other.  You can download skype here: http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/
Once it is installed on your computer, register for an account and let me know your skype ID by posting a message to this Google group (email to: snhu-tefl3@googlegroups.com ).  Once I know your ID I will add you to the Skype group.

Again, none of these are assignments, but I hope they will be useful for some of you and that getting a headstart on them now will make our two weeks together a bit less overwhelming.  For those interested in other skills covered during EFL537, you can find additional resources below.

I look forward to virtually meeting all of you in a few months and in the meantime, if you have any technical questions, please feel free to post them to the google group.

Best wishes,
Jeff
